Boundary Lake Water Station remains closed until late June 2025
The Boundary Lake Water Station located at 1105 Cecil Lake Road in Electoral Area B remains closed until late June 2025.
An equipment failure affected water quality and caused the closure on August 12, 2024. A large portion of the treatment infrastructure needs to be replaced. The replacement equipment is expected to arrive in June and the station will reopen after the new equipment has been delivered and installed.
In the meantime, residents can access the Feye Spring Water Station located at 1863 Imperial Avenue in Clayhurst, BC.
The Peace River Regional District thanks residents for their patience during this time.

PRRD starts public engagement on new Regional Zoning Bylaw project
The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has launched a public survey on accessory buildings, home-based business, secondary suite and detached suite regulations. This is the first step in developing a new Regional Zoning Bylaw. The survey invites public feedback to help shape the development of the new bylaw and guide future engagements.
“We’re creating a unified Regional Zoning Bylaw that reflects the needs and priorities of our communities and simplifies regulations,” said Board Chair Leonard Hiebert. “Public input is crucial to shape a new bylaw that will work for everyone in our region.”
Engagement Opportunities
The online survey is open from March 20 to May 30, 2025 at 4:30pm (PST). Registration is not required to participate and responses are anonymous. Hard copies of the survey are available at both PRRD offices in Dawson Creek (1981 Alaska Avenue) and Fort St. John (9505 100 Street). In addition to the survey, in-person engagement is scheduled for the fall of 2025.

PRRD launches survey to gather feedback on draft Regional Climate Resiliency Plan
Residents, businesses and communities in the Peace River region are experiencing significant impacts from natural hazard events. These include wildfires, flooding, extreme heat, drought and storms. Climate change is making these events more frequent and intense. This leads to damage to property, infrastructure, crops and forced evacuations.
In response, the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is developing a Regional Climate Resiliency Plan (RCRP). The plan will assess risks from climate-related hazards and help the region prepare for future events. It outlines strategies to improve resilience and identifies resources needed for implementation.
The draft RCRP was presented to the Regional Board on March 6, 2025, and is now in the final stage of public engagement before the final plan is shared with the Regional Board. This is the last opportunity for the public to review the draft plan and ensure that it meets the needs of the community.

Keep Your Culverts Clear During Thaw Season
As the weather warms and the snow begins to melt in the Peace River Regional District, it’s important to make sure that water flows smoothly through the culverts on your property. Property owners are responsible for maintaining clear culverts, and we have some practical tips to assist you:
Culvert Maintenance
- Inspect Before Spring: Conduct a thorough inspection of your culverts in the fall. Remove any debris or blockages to prepare for the spring thaw.
- Clear Snow and Ice: As spring approaches, promptly clear any snow and ice from the entrances and exits of your culverts to maintain unobstructed water flow.
- Thaw with Hot Water: For stubborn ice blockages, using a hot water pressure washer can be highly effective. Ensure you use the appropriate nozzle and wear the necessary safety gear.
- Storm Drain Care: Don’t overlook nearby storm drains. Keeping them clear of snow, ice, and debris will enhance overall drainage in your area.
- Monitor Regularly: Regularly check your culverts during the thaw. If water isn’t flowing correctly, continue with your clearing efforts.
- Extend Downspouts: Redirect water from your roof away from your foundation and culverts to prevent excessive water flow.
- Emergency Preparedness: Keep your equipment ready for any urgent maintenance needs during late fall and winter.
