Doig River Wildfire Evacuation Order #1 Cancelled

Issued on May 20, 2024 at 1100 hours (11:00 a.m.)

Official notice: Doig River Wildfire EVACUATION ORDER #1 RESCIND

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has rescinded (cancelled) the Doig River Wildfire Evacuation Order #1 as of May 20, 2024 1100 hours.

This means the Evacuation Order is cancelled pursuant to Section 12 (1) of the BC Emergency Program Act for the area defined by:

  • Km 5.75 on Doig Road
  • North to Road PDR MC9
  • East for 6.75 Km
  • South to Doig Road
  • West to Km 5.75 on Doig Road

This notification does not apply to First Nations communities or municipalities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

Residents on these properties can return home; however, it is important to note that these properties are now under Doig River Wildfire Evacuation Alert #3.

Safety Tips for Returning Home

  • Please use extra caution when driving – there may be hazards on the roads throughout the area, including downed trees and powerlines. It’s a good idea to avoid driving at night or if there is poor visibility due to rain or smoke.
  • Please refer to our Heading Back Home Guide for tips on returning safely to your home after an evacuation, including:
    • how to assess and avoid potential hazards on your property; and
    • how to deal with health and safety risks in your home, including how to deal with rotting food and other garbage.

It’s important to remember that when you are under an Alert, you, need to be ready to leave the area again with short notice. Please review the instructions for the Doig River Wildfire Evacuation Alert #3 to be prepared to evacuate on short notice if needed.

Please note that an Evacuation Order may need to be reissued; however, if that is deemed necessary, a new Evacuation Order process will be initiated.

This means the Evacuation Order is cancelled for the following areas:

  • Directly West of Bisset Creek

Wildmare Creek Fire Evacuation Order #1

April 24, 2024 at 20:00 hours

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has issued an Evacuation Order for the Wildmare Creek Fire.

Wildmare Creek Fire – Order 1 is now in effect in the following areas:

Directly West of Bisset Creek
South to Pine River
East to Wildmare Creek

YOU MUST LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY
Members of the local police department and other agencies will be expediting this action. A person must not enter the area identified above and in the attached map for purposes of residing, occupying or visiting the area.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

  • Follow the travel route Highway 97 North and register at: 5400 Hospital Rd, Chetwynd – District of Chetwynd Municipal Office
  • If you need transportation assistance from the area, advise the person providing this notice or call 1-800-670-773.
  • Do not turn off your natural gas. FortisBC will turn off natural gas service as needed.
  • Close all windows and doors.
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock.
  • Gather your family and, if you have room, take a neighbor or someone needing transportation. Do not use more vehicles than you have to.
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available. Take pets in pet kennels or on leash.
  • Do not use the telephone unless you need emergency service.

This Order cancellation does not apply to First Nations communities or municipalities, as they are responsible for issuing Orders, Alerts and cancellations for their jurisdictions. Please check in with the relevant jurisdiction for further information.
  • You do not need to check in at an Emergency Support Services Reception Centre.
  • Fill the gas tank of personal vehicles.
  • Bring at least three days of food and essential supplies (e.g. medications, pet supplies) with you, as local grocery stores may not yet have adequate stock.

Stoddart Creek Evacuation Order #5

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has issued an Evacuation Order area for the Stoddart Creek wildfire.

Stoddart Creek Evacuation Order #5 is now in effect in the following areas:

  • Following the southern boundary of Blueberry River First Nations reserve lands and the Blueberry River east to the bridge on the Prespatou Road,
  • South along Prespatou Road to a point 3.2 km north of 264 Road
  • Due west to a point 3.2 km east of the Beatton Airport Road
  • Due north to a point of intersection with the Blueberry River
    And includes the following addresses:

YOU MUST LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY

Evacuation Orders are issued on the recommendation of BC Wildfire when there is an immediate threat to life safety. Anyone under the age of 19 is required to evacuate by law.

If you need assistance to evacuate from the area, such as for transportation, mobility, health, or other needs, please advise the person providing this notice or call 1-800-670-7773.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO WHEN YOU EVACUATE:

  • There is a critical risk to life safety, and residents under an Evacuation Order are being advised to leave the area immediately. Visit DriveBC to check for road conditions.
  • Emergency Support Services (ESS) are available at the reception centre at North Peace Arena – 9805 96 Ave Fort St. John, BC.:
    • Friday, Sept 15, 2023  The Reception Centre is closed for the evening as of 10:24 pm – please call 250-794-3310
    • Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 9:30 am to 12 noon or call 250-794-3310.
    • Friday, September 22, 2023, for assistance with renewals or new services, from 3:00 to 3:30 pm or call 250-794-3310.
  • Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers.
  • If you have time and it is safe to do so, please shut off your gas supply at the meter. To do this, take a wrench, and turn the valve 90 degrees to the off position.
  • Close and lock all windows and doors.
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock them.
  • Gather your family and, if you have room, take a neighbour or someone needing transportation. Do not use more vehicles than needed.
  • Take critical items (identification, credit cards, medicine, cell, phone and charger, and keys) only if they are immediately available.
  • Take pets in pet kennels or on leash.

Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Order #6 Cancelled

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has rescinded Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Order #6 as of June 19, 2023 at 1630 hours (4:30 p.m.).

This means the Evacuation Order is cancelled for the following areas and they are now under Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Alert #12:

  • 4 km east of Highway 97N between Sikanni Chief and Pink Mountain;
  • due east from Pink Mountain to a point where it intersects with West Milligan Creek;
  • due north 24 kms; and
  • west to point of intersection (Sikanni Chief 4 km east of Highway 97).

The addresses listed below are included in this area and residents can return home; however, it is important to note that the fire situation remains volatile and residents are advised to remain prepared to evacuate on short notice.

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has rescinded Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Order #7 as of June 18, 2023 at 1515 hours (3:15 p.m.)

This means the Evacuation Order is cancelled for Trutch and the surrounding areas, and residents can return home. The following areas are affected by this change:

  • east of Highway 97N between Mile 192 and Mile 207; and
  • extending East 20 km of Highway 97N.

West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Order #4 Cancelled

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has rescinded West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Order #4 as of June 18, 2023 at 0900 hours (9:00 a.m.)

This means the Evacuation Order is cancelled for the One Island Lake community and the areas listed below, and residents can return home. They are now under West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Alert #3. The following areas are affected by this change:

  • starting at the intersection of Hwy 52 N and N Old Fellers Road, travel east to the One Island Lake bridge;
  • following the Kiskatinaw River southeast to a point of intersection with Cutbank Creek;
  • continue east along Cutbank Creek from 1 km;
  • continue south for approximately 1 km, then travel east for 1.5 km to Hwy 52 E;
  • continue south along the west side of Hwy 52 E to km 195;
  • continue west along the Kiskatinaw River to the district of Tumbler Ridge boundary, including the Kiskatinaw FSR and Bearhole Lake Road;
  • continue north along the district of Tumbler Ridge boundary to km 80 Hwy 52 N; and
  • continue north along the east of Hwy 52 N to the intersection of Hwy 52 N and N Old Fellers Road.

Peavine Creek Evacuation Order #1 Cancelled

Issued June 15, 2023 at 1000 hours (10:00 a.m.)

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has rescinded Peavine Creek Evacuation Order #1 as of June 15, 2023 at 1000 hours (10:00 a.m.)

This means the Evacuation Order is cancelled for the following areas, and they are now under Peavine Creek Evacuation Alert #2:

  • from the BC/Alberta border west to Gunter Bridge;
  • southwest along with One Island Lake Road to the One Island Lake Bridge;
  • from that point, continuing east/southeast following the Kiskatinaw River then east along Cutbank Creek to the Cutbank Dam at Hwy 52E;
  • following South along the west side of Hwy 52E to km 212;
  • east to a point of intersection with the BC/Alberta border; and
  • north along the BC/Alberta border for 14.5 km.

West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Order #4

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has reduced the Evacuation Order area for the West Kiskatinaw River wildfire. Most of the areas that were under West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Order #3 remain under Evacuation Order #4 due to immediate threat to life safety; however, a few areas are now under Evacuation Alert.

Areas Remaining Under Evacuation Order #4

West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Order #4 remains in place for approximately 58 properties, including the One Island Lake community and the following areas:

  • Starting at the intersection of Hwy 52 N and N Old Fellers Road, travel east to the One Island Lake bridge;

  • Following the Kiskatinaw River southeast to a point of intersection with Cutbank Creek;

  • continue east along Cutbank Creek from 1 km;

  • continue south for approximately 1 km, then travel east for 1.5 km to Hwy 52 E;

  • continue south along the west side of Hwy 52 E to km 195;

  • continue west along the Kiskatinaw River to the district of Tumbler Ridge boundary, including the Kiskatinaw FSR and Bearhole Lake Road;

  • travel north along the district of Tumbler Ridge boundary to km 80 Hwy 52 N; and

  • The areas west of Highway 52N that were previously under West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Order #3 are now under West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Alert #2. This means residents in these areas can return home; however, it is important to be prepared to leave again on short notice if needed.
  • There is also a small area that extends south from Cutbank Creek and east to Highway 52 East that was previously under West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Order #3, and is now part of Peavine Creek Evacuation Alert #2.
