The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has launched a public survey on accessory buildings, home-based business, secondary suite and detached suite regulations. This is the first step in developing a new Regional Zoning Bylaw. The survey invites public feedback to help shape the development of the new bylaw and guide future engagements.
“We’re creating a unified Regional Zoning Bylaw that reflects the needs and priorities of our communities and simplifies regulations,” said Board Chair Leonard Hiebert. “Public input is crucial to shape a new bylaw that will work for everyone in our region.”
Engagement Opportunities
The online survey is open from March 20 to May 30, 2025 at 4:30pm (PST). Registration is not required to participate and responses are anonymous. Hard copies of the survey are available at both PRRD offices in Dawson Creek (1981 Alaska Avenue) and Fort St. John (9505 100 Street). In addition to the survey, in-person engagement is scheduled for the fall of 2025.

Background
The PRRD is developing a new Regional Zoning Bylaw to replace the existing five zoning bylaws, some dating back to 1976. This initiative will create one unified bylaw to better serve regional communities.
The new bylaw will bring several benefits including improved accessibility, updated regulations based on community feedback and less red tape to support local industries.
In addition to the survey, in-person engagement is scheduled for the fall of 2025.
