The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is launching a public engagement project to help shape the the future of the community space located at 6161 Golata Creek Road.
Residents: Share Your Vision and Priorities
The PRRD now invites residents to share their priorities for this community space and what that may look like. The community will have the opportunity to provide input on their priorities for a new space and what they might be willing to pay in taxation (if any). There are several options for the site, including building a new facility, creating an outdoor recreational infrastructure or pursuing other community-driven alternatives.
A Collaborative Approach
Community members, the Golata Creek Community Association and the PRRD Board will determine the future of the property through a collaborative process.
Have Your Say: Online and In-Person
An interactive project page is available at haveyoursay.prrd.bc.ca/gcsp. On the page, visitors can complete a short survey by May 2, use the Community Ideas tool to upload thoughts or pictures about their ideal community space and review project documents. Hard copies of the survey are available at the PRRD offices in Dawson Creek (1981 Alaska Avenue) and Fort St. John (9595 100 Street). Residents can request a mailed copy by emailing communications@prrd.bc.ca.
Attend the Community Meeting
A community meeting is also scheduled for April 30, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Clearview Arena located at 13772 223 Road in Goodlow. At the meeting, residents will receive a project update and be able to share ideas on the development of the community space to inform future direction. For those who cannot attend the community meeting, the presentation will be available on the project page.
Background: Closure of the Golata Creek Community Hall
The Golata Creek Community Hall, built in 1958, closed in July 2022 due to safety concerns related to its structural integrity. Engineering assessments found that repairs would cost too much. The PRRD Board has approved a budget of $500,000 for potentially developing a new building or recreational space, dependent on community support through a referendum.
