Statement from Chair Hiebert on seniors care milestone for the Peace region

Dawson Creek, BC – June 24, 2025 – On behalf of the Peace River Regional Hospital District (PRRHD), I want to express my appreciation and excitement for an important long-term care home project that is moving ahead in Fort St. John. The facility represents a significant milestone in addressing the urgent need for seniors care in our region. It demonstrates the power of local advocacy for local solutions, combined with strong partnerships between all levels of government.

When community advocates and government work together, we can achieve meaningful solutions that truly serve people. For years, dedicated community leaders like Margaret Little, President of Save Our Northern Seniors and the PRRHD have advocated for solutions to the seniors housing crisis facing northern BC.

Together with community advocacy, we recognize the important government partnerships with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Northern Health that support this long-term care facility.

The PRRHD has long upheld the principle that Peace region residents should have access to the same rights and opportunities as those granted across the province. This new long-term care facility moves us all closer to ensuring that our seniors receive quality care within their communities, surrounded by family and friends. I look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on seniors and families throughout the Peace region.

As we look to the future, the PRRHD remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen our communities and provide essential services to residents across all demographics.
