The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has been awarded the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for its 2023 annual financial report.
This marks the sixth consecutive year the PRRD has earned this significant award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), having received it annually since 2018.
“We’re happy to receive this award for the sixth consecutive year because it shows our ongoing commitment to financial transparency and accessibility of information,” said PRRD Board Chair Leonard Hiebert. “Our finance and communication teams have maintained excellence in creating clear, comprehensive annual financial reports that go beyond basic requirements to ensure that information is understandable and interesting for our residents.”
The GFOA established the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Program to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports, and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance. Financial reports must be easy to read, well organized and clearly communicate their financial picture.
The Canadian Review Committee determined that the PRRD’s financial report clearly explains finances in a “spirit of full disclosure” that communicates the regional district’s financial story and motivates the public to read and learn.
