Old Fort Road News
As of 4:00 pm, Thursday, July 16, Old Fort Road re-opened for 24/7 use by all vehicle types.
Work continues around the new road access to improve drainage; expect minor delays during the work day. Weather permitting, on Monday, July 20, road construction crews will treat the new road access with a base stabilization/brine coating. News release from MoTI.
Termination of Emergency Services For Old Fort Residents
Emergency Support Services (ESS): Emergency Support Services (ESS) for lodging, food and other needs ends today, Friday, July 17. No further support services are available.
Emergency Water Taxi: Docks are being removed today. The water taxi service will continue to run until 9:00 pm today, Friday, July 17. Residents must remove any vehicles remaining at Peace Island Park before that time; no overnight security will be in place at Peace Island Park after 9:00 pm today, Friday, July 17. Water taxi service hotline: 250-271-0366.
Emergency Utility Services: All emergency utility services (water, sewage, garbage) have already been discontinued. PRRD has made arrangements to securely store related infrastructure so that it can be rapidly mobilized in the future.
Professional assessments of the slide and surrounding areas
Peace River Regional District (PRRD) requested commentary from geotechnical professionals responsible for monitoring and evaluating the Old Fort Road and slide, surrounding crown lands, and the community. See the Resources for Old Fort Residents page for more information.
Daily Update Changes
There will no longer be a daily update for the Old Fort Landslide unless there are any significant changes.
