09/11/24 10:30: Thunder Creek Wildfire, G72443
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) provided a final update on September 11, 2024 at 10:59 (MST) advising that the Thunder Creek Wildfire is now being held and Highway 52 is open. BCWS advises to check DriveBC for more information before travelling in the area, as wildfires are dynamic and can change quickly.
As of this update, 30 firefighters and 1 helicopter are assigned to this fire, with crews remaining on scene for mop-up activities.
09/06/24 12:30: Thunder Creek Wildfire, G72443
The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is aware of a new wildfire start in the Bearhole Lake, Thunder Creek area east of Tumbler Ridge. The BC Wildfire Service fire number is G72443.
The BCWS Wildfire Situation Map currently lists this wildfire at 13 hectares with firefighter crews responding with 2 helicopters and 5 pieces of heavy equipment.
Updates
PRRD staff have been in contact with the duty officer this morning, and can confirm that good progress was made overnight through air response. Crews are continuing air response today with ground crews also attending the fire.
BCWS has advised that at this point, the fire is likely to be contained and do not foresee any area restrictions, alerts or orders being necessary. As always, this is weather dependent and subject to change.
The smoke in the region is from active fires northwest of the Peace River region, not the Thunder Creek Fire.
PRRD staff continue to work with response agencies to closely monitor the situation. The PRRD will provide updates through the public website at prrd.bc.ca, NEBC alerts and social media should the situation change
