On November 27, 2019, the Regional Board held a Special Meeting to meet with representatives from agricultural groups and agencies to discuss the difficult conditions faced by local agricultural producers due to unfavorable weather conditions, and the resulting impacts on producers, businesses, and residents of the Regional District.

At the November 28th Board Meeting, the PRRD Board resolved to invite Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Lana Popham to the Peace Region to see the effects of the poor weather in 2019 first hand. Prior to the visit, the PRRD is asking Peace Region Farmers to complete a short survey about how the poor weather in 2019 has affected producers and businesses.

The PRRD has opened a survey to gather data from local area producers on how they have been affected. The survey will be open from December 5th – 18th. Data from the survey will be used to inform a report to be drafted and presented to give an outlook on the Agriculture Industry in the region.

BC Motor Fuel Tax & Carbon Tax Exemptions

Farmers may be exempt from Motor Fuel Tax for Propane (including Liquefied Petroleum Gas) that is:

  • Purchased in pre-filled or refilled cylinders (28 litres)
  • Used in a residential dwelling if certain conditions are met
  • Used by a qualifying farmer for a farm purpose if certain conditions are met



Federal Fuel Charge Relief

In certain circumstances, you may be able to benefit from partial or full relief of the fuel charge at the time of delivery if you provide an exemption certificate to the person who delivers the fuel to you. Specifically, when a person delivers fuel to you, an exemption certificate only applies in respect of the delivery if it is made in prescribed form containing prescribed information determined by the Minister and includes a declaration by the person that the person is one of the following:

A farmer and all of the following conditions are met:

  • the fuel is delivered to a farm
  • the fuel is for use exclusively in the operation of eligible farming machinery or of an auxiliary component of eligible farming machinery
  • all or substantially all of the fuel is for use in the course of eligible farming activities
