Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Order #6


Issued June 11, 2023 at 2015 hours (8:15 p.m.)

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has issued an Evacuation Order for the Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes wildfire due to immediate threat to life safety.

Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Order #6 applies to properties that were previously under Evacuation Alert #7, including the following areas:

  • 4 km east of Highway 97N between Sikanni Chief and Pink Mountain;
  • due east from Pink Mountain to a point where it intersects with West Milligan Creek;
  • due North 24 kms; and
  • west to point of intersection (Sikanni Chief 4 km east of Highway 97).

The area between Pink Mountain and Sikanni Chief, 1 to 4 km east of Highway 97 is under Evacuation Alert #8.

This Order does not apply to First Nations communities or municipalities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

YOU MUST LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY WHEN THERE IS AN EVACUATION ORDER

If your property is in the Evacuation Order area, there is an immediate threat to life safety and anyone under the age of 19 is required to evacuate by law.

If you need assistance to evacuate from the area, such as for transportation, mobility, health or other needs, please call 1-800-670-7773.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO WHEN YOU EVACUATE:

  • Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers.
  • If you have time, shut off your gas supply at the meter. To do this, take a wrench, and turn the valve 90 degrees to the off position.
  • Close and lock all windows and doors.
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock them.
  • Gather your family and, if you have room, take a neighbour or someone needing transportation. Do not use more vehicles than needed.
  • Take critical items (identification, credit cards, medicine, keys, cellphone and charger) if they are immediately available.
  • Take pets in pet kennels or on leash.
  • Travel by safest route to Fort St John. Check DriveBC for road conditions.
  • Register for Emergency Support Services (ESS) by calling ESS at 250-794-3310
    • You can also register at the ESS Reception Centre located at Pomeroy Sport Centre (9324 96 St, Fort St John), which will be open on Monday, June 12 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
