The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is planning how to use a combined $1,084,000 received in 2020 and earlier this week under the provincial government’s COVID-19 Safe Restart Grants for Local Governments program.
The funding is intended to support local governments as they deal with increased operating costs and lower revenue due to COVID-19.
“We’re working with staff on a plan to use this funding in the most effective way possible for the benefit of PRRD residents, within the provincial government’s restrictions, and we’ll share that information with the public as soon as we can,” says PRRD Chair Brad Sperling. “We appreciate that the province recognizes the burden that has been placed on regional districts by the pandemic.”
Provincial government restrictions state that the funding can be applied to revenue shortfalls, facility reopening and operating costs, emergency planning and response costs, bylaw enforcement and protective services like fire protection and police, improving interconnectivity and virtual communications, services for vulnerable persons, and other related costs.
