Virtual open house series speaks to landfilled waste and energy recovery

Monday April 26, will mark the second week of virtual open houses being held to share the ideas contained within the Regional Solid Waste Management plan update. A surprising amount of landfilled waste in the region doesn’t belong in the landfill; the plan highlights that about 70% could be reused or recycled into paper, plastics, compostable materials and building materials.

The virtual open houses being held until May 6, engage the public on the strategies being proposed to improve these numbers. The events include videos that outline the challenges the region faces to effectively manage waste, which include illegal dumping and high transportation costs. The PRRD is excited to share their proposed ideas concerning waste diversion and energy recovery with the public, and invite you to RSVP to one of six remaining dates. Find one by clicking here.

To send your RSVP visit the PRRD Facebook page and click the Events tab. Select the date you are interested in and respond as “going”. A reminder notification will be sent via Facebook before the start time, to join the event click on the link in the event page description. Residents are asked to please contact Environmental Services with any questions at 250-784-3200 or by emailing prrd.dc@prrd.bc.ca.
