PRRD provides update on the Kelly Lake Waste Station

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) recently received approval by the Regional Board to replace the diesel generator at the Kelly Lake Waste (Transfer) Station in Kelly Lake, BC.

The existing generator posed safety concerns due to theft, prompting the station’s temporary closure on May 2, 2024. During this closure, staff consulted with the public on mitigation strategies.

To enhance security and prevent future theft, the PRRD will install a new propane generator, eliminating the need for on-site diesel fuel.

Community engagement played a crucial role in this decision, with over 40 responses received through online and paper surveys conducted from May 2 to May 15, 2024. Based on this feedback, a report with recommended options was presented to the Regional Board on May 30, 2024.

While the generator work is underway, the Kelly Lake Waste Station remains closed.

Residents are encouraged to use the bulky bins located at the site’s entrance from June 3 to 16, 2024.

After June 16, residents can use the nearest alternate depots:

  • Tomslake Waste (Transfer) Station located at 15093 Old Edmonton Hwy
  • Dawson Creek Waste (Transfer) Station located at 829 Highway 49
