The PRRD offices will be closed on Monday, May 20 for Victoria Day.
A few important reminders as we all head into the long weekend:
- Category 2 and 3 open burning is prohibited across the region, this includes: fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description and binary exploding targets.
- Category 1 (campfires that are a half-metre high by half-metre wide or smaller, or the use of cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes) are not prohibited.
- Given the extreme fire conditions in the region, please exercise extreme caution with any campfire activity; never leave campfires unattended and completely extinguish them so ashes are cool to the touch before leaving a site.
- Avoid having a campfire when it’s windy.
Please note that fire centre bans and restrictions are under the authority of, and set by, the BC Wildfire Service, not the Peace River Regional District.
To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation, call 1-800-663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone or through the BC Wildfire Service mobile app.
